Move your body and love it.

Your body is made to move. Movement keeps the wheels greased, the circulation flowing, the de-tox mechanisms functioning and it increases serotonin- meaning it is a natural anti-depressant. It can be a powerful tool when you are feeling down to lift you up through the dark cloud, clear the negative energy and get your grateful on.

I want to be clear here that I do not consider calorie-burning-physical-labor-that is drudgery (Which has it’s place in our lives. Respect.) the same as Me-time physical movement.

Have you noticed the difference between a day of walking through the shops or standing at work or hauling boxes, which is all in theory ‘exercise’, has a much different effect than 30 minutes of doing your favourite sport, dance class, challenging Yoga sequence or a great run? The body aches, but you feel like a million bucks.

When we move our bodies with consciousness and care we can be de-toxing, healing and creating our better selves.

For too long we treated our bodies like the donkeys that carried the heavy load of our soul… but that can be different… the bodies are here for us to take a wild and beautiful ride inside of; expressions of our spirit, playgrounds for our imagination, and tools for our need for challenge and accomplishment.

I have come to see exercise as play for big kids. We need to play to relieve our stress, to keep our spirits high, to meet a challenge, explore our world and ourselves.

Think of when you were a child, what did you like to do most to play? Sports with others? Competition? Challenging your self or developing skills on your own? Expressive and creative play like theatre or dance? Even if you were a quieter kid who preferred to read or play chess, you had to have some way to get the wiggles out? Walking in nature or riding your bike?

Let your choice of exercise reflect what makes you feel good, what is something you want to do, not something you are obligated to do. Let yourself fall in love with moving your body around.
